What are the Drawbacks of Practicing Fragrant Qigong Alongside Other Forms of Qigong?

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

Since the publication of my book on Fragrant Qigong, this is the question, I am asked the most. Why Shouldn’t I practice Fragrant Qigong if I do other forms of Qigong?

The answer lies in the difference between different forms of Qigong and what they are trying to achieve. Fragrant Qigong is not like most Qigong forms as it doesn’t require the same mental focus, slow movement, and breath work as other forms of Qigong. The 15 simple arm movements that make up the practice of Fragrant Qigong are performed at a quick pace and no breath work or mental focus is required; in fact, it is actively discouraged.

Whereas most other forms of Qigong consist of a series of flowing movements performed in a slow and mindful manner. These slow-flowing movements are designed to activate specific acupuncture points and energy meridians in the body, stimulating the flow of Qi (energy) and removing blockages or imbalances, and harmonizing the body’s energy system. This is achieved by the practitioner applying 4 main principles:

1. Slow Flowing Movements.

2. Relaxed Body

3. Calm Mind

4. Abdominal Breathing

When these principles are adhered to during a Qigong routine the Qi in the body starts to flow. Fragrant Qigong, however, doesn’t work in the same way. It is a specific type of Qigong that works to raise your body’s vibrational energy. We are all living energy fields. Your body is composed of energy-producing particles, each of which is in constant motion. So, like everything and everyone else in the universe, you are vibrating and creating energy. Some of this energy travels through the meridian system but the body itself is emitting an energy frequency. Some people’s energy frequency vibrates at a high rate and others at a low rate.

Fragrant Qigong seeks to raise the vibrational energy generated by your body to optimize your health. Heartbeats and breathing rates are examples of vibrations that we can see, feel, and measure. But there are much smaller vibrations happening in your body. Inside each one of your cells, molecules vibrate at characteristic rates.

These vibrations generate electromagnetic energy waves and researchers have found that vibrations and the electromagnetic energy associated with them cause changes in your body’s cells, which can then affect how your body functions. It has been found that if your body’s frequency vibrates at a higher rate, you are more likely to have good health and be happier than if your body vibrates at a lower rate.

Increasing your vibrational energy can improve your mood, improve physical health and help you achieve your goals and intentions. Vibrational energy experts claim that certain emotions and thought patterns, such as joy, peace, and acceptance, create high-frequency vibrations, while other feelings and mindsets such as anger despair, and fear vibrate at a lower rate. A growing body of scientists is finding that vibrations can be used to encourage healing and stimulate growth in the body.

This brings us to the conflict between practicing Fragrant Qigong whilst also practicing other Qigong forms. As they work differently on the body’s energy systems, Practicing Fragrant Qigong alongside other forms of Qigong can potentially disrupt the body’s energy flow and lead to imbalances.

It is always important to approach the integration of different Qigong practices with caution. As different types of Qigong have their own unique methods, principles, and objectives. It is generally more effective to focus on one practice at a time and fully explore its benefits before moving on to another. If you practice multiple types of Qigong simultaneously the objectives and techniques might conflict with or dilute each other’s effectiveness

Different types of Qigong resonate with different people, and you may wish to explore various forms separately to discern which practice resonates the most with your body, mind, and spirit. This allows you to choose the type of Qigong that aligns with your personal goals, preferences, and energetic constitution.
